European University of Nigeria Unveiled in Abuja

A new private institution, the European University of Nigeria (EUN), Abuja, has been officially unveiled with a promise to reshape university education in the country through disruptive innovation, global partnerships, and a European-style academic structure.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Chinedum Ibezim, announced the launch on Thursday at a world press conference themed “Disruptive Innovation in Nigerian University Education: Unveiling European University of Nigeria, Abuja.”

Located at Drive 6, Prince and Princess Estate, Duboyi District, Abuja, EUN is modeled after leading European institutions and maintains collaborations with academics from the University of Birmingham and institutions in Berlin, alongside partnerships spanning Cyprus, Lisbon, Egypt, and Bangladesh.

Academic Programmes and Facilities

Prof. Ibezim disclosed that the university currently offers 23 programmes fully approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and recognised by relevant professional bodies. Courses include Pharmacy, Nursing, Law, Mass Communication, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, Accountancy, Political Science, Economics, Public Health, and Information Technology.

The university boasts modern laboratories, ultramodern hostels, campus-wide Wi-Fi, uninterrupted electricity and water supply, sports facilities, and a standard medical centre. It also partners with hospitals in Abuja to provide hands-on clinical training for students in health-related disciplines.

Focus on Innovation and Skills

The Vice Chancellor assured parents and students of uninterrupted academic calendars, noting that the institution does not experience strike actions.

Highlighting its research drive, he pointed to ongoing projects in artificial intelligence, software development, drone technology, tablet disintegration apparatus fabrication, and neem-based treatments targeting drug-resistant malaria.

EUN has also introduced a “Learn-a-Skill” initiative requiring every student to acquire at least one vocational or technical skill and one foreign language before graduation, with the goal of producing entrepreneurs and job creators.

Expansion Plans and Rankings

The university plans to introduce Medicine, additional Nursing programmes, International Relations, and Postgraduate Diplomas, with full postgraduate programmes expected to begin next year subject to regulatory approval.

Prof. Ibezim said EUN aims to rank among Nigeria’s top five institutions in Cybersecurity, Nursing, Pharmacy, Software Engineering, and Law within five years. The institution offers merit- and need-based scholarships, moderate tuition fees, and flexible payment plans.

Admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session are currently ongoing, with candidates who scored 150 and above in UTME eligible to apply. The university’s maiden matriculation ceremony is scheduled for March 7, 2026, at its Abuja campus.

According to the Vice Chancellor, EUN’s European-style model is designed to curb brain drain by delivering globally competitive education within Nigeria and positioning the institution as an emerging force in the country’s higher education sector.
