The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has recorded one of the most significant institutional transformations in Nigeria’s university system, posting a 310 per cent increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), major academic expansion, and rising global recognition under the leadership of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.
Speaking ahead of the university’s 10th convocation ceremony, Prof. Fasina said the achievements reflect years of strategic planning, disciplined governance, and purposeful leadership that repositioned FUOYE as a nationally competitive and globally visible institution.
He disclosed that the growth in IGR has strengthened the university’s financial sustainability, enabling increased investment in infrastructure, staffing, and academic development, while student enrolment has expanded significantly, making FUOYE one of the most sought-after universities in Nigeria.
According to him, the institution recorded massive academic growth, expanding faculties, departments, and programmes to align with national development needs and global academic standards. This expansion has placed FUOYE among the most subscribed universities in the country, ranking fourth nationally based on admission statistics.
In human capital development, the university recorded over 200 professorial promotions within five years, reflecting a strong academic culture that rewards scholarship, research productivity, and professional excellence.
FUOYE’s progress has also been validated internationally through multiple global ranking platforms, with strong performances in global university rankings, Sub-Saharan Africa assessments, and subject-specific rankings in Physical and Social Sciences. The institution has also gained recognition in international scientific rankings, with several academic staff listed among the world’s leading researchers.
Infrastructure development remained a defining feature of the administration, with over 160 projects executed across both campuses, transforming the physical outlook of the university and significantly improving teaching, learning, and research environments.
Prof. Fasina said research and innovation witnessed major growth, with FUOYE attracting hundreds of millions of naira in local research funding and major international grants, strengthening the institution’s research capacity and global partnerships.
Beyond academics, the university recorded progress in governance reforms, digital transformation, sports development, community engagement, and leadership succession planning, while maintaining a stable academic calendar and affordable tuition structure.
He stated that all elements of his twenty-point reform agenda were achieved to varying degrees, marking a period of deep institutional transformation.
As part of its long-term vision, FUOYE has adopted a Strategic Plan covering 2026 to 2050, designed to consolidate current gains and position the university for sustained excellence, national relevance, and global competitiveness.
Prof. Fasina said the administration is leaving behind a stronger, more resilient, and globally connected institution.
