Suspect Arrested Over School Bomb Threats

Police have arrested Kosisochukwu Chukwuekenyem over alleged threats to bomb Avi-Cenna International School and Grange School, heightening security concerns around private schools in Lagos.

According to police authorities, the suspect was taken into custody following intelligence-led investigations triggered by threatening messages reportedly sent to the schools. The threats caused alarm among parents, school administrators, and the wider community, prompting immediate security responses.

A senior police source said detectives acted swiftly after receiving reports of the threats, deploying technical surveillance and other investigative tools to trace their origin. This process eventually led to the identification and arrest of Chukwuekenyem.

“Following credible intelligence, the suspect was apprehended without incident,” the source said. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the threats were intended to cause fear and disrupt public peace.”

The police confirmed that no explosive devices were found at either Avi-Cenna or Grange School, stressing that students and staff were not in immediate danger at any point. Nonetheless, security patrols were temporarily increased around the schools and nearby areas as a precautionary measure.

Parents were promptly informed by school managements, many of whom commended the quick response of security agencies. Some parents, however, called for stricter monitoring of threats targeting educational institutions and improved emergency communication systems.

Police officials reiterated that making bomb threats is a serious criminal offence with severe legal consequences, even when no actual device is involved. They warned that individuals who spread false threats or attempt to create panic would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Chukwuekenyem remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. Authorities also disclosed that further inquiries are ongoing to determine whether the suspect acted alone or had accomplices.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, advising citizens to promptly report any suspicious messages or activities to security agencies. They reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, particularly within schools and other sensitive public spaces.
