Nasarawa University Seeks Partnerships to Boost Innovation Ecosystem

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is calling on government bodies, industries, universities, and other stakeholders to collaborate in building a robust innovation ecosystem.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adatu Liman, made the appeal at a Public Lecture and Interactive Workshop held at the Keffi campus on Monday. The event was organized by Triple Helix Nigeria, an NGO, in partnership with the university.

Ms Liman said the programme’s theme aligns with the university’s vision to foster research that drives innovation and economic growth. She emphasized that establishing a thriving innovation ecosystem requires collective effort, commitment, and collaboration with key players across sectors.

“This is why the university is adopting the Triple Helix model, which focuses on partnership between universities, industry, and government to promote innovation and economic development,” she said.

She called for continued support from partners such as NASENI, NITDA, and Triple Helix Nigeria to nurture the university into a hub of enterprise and creativity. Key strategies for achieving these objectives include interdisciplinary research, cross-faculty collaboration, industry internships, joint research projects, and technology transfer initiatives.

Ms Liman also urged the government to implement innovation-friendly policies and funding mechanisms while fostering an entrepreneurship culture to support startups and innovation hubs.

Eucharia Nwaichi, Director of Academic Planning, Research, and Control at the University of Port Harcourt and a board member of Triple Helix Nigeria, thanked the vice-chancellor and university management for their openness and commitment to knowledge advancement, noting that it has already contributed to innovation, policy relevance, and societal impact.

This move positions Nasarawa State University as a forward-thinking institution actively seeking to strengthen Nigeria’s research and innovation landscape.
