The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has restated its commitment to advancing educational development across the country, describing education as a critical driver of national growth, innovation, and social cohesion.
Speaking at a party stakeholders meeting held on Monday, the PDP chief emphasized that no nation can achieve sustainable development without deliberate and consistent investment in education. He said education remains the most effective tool for empowering citizens, reducing poverty, and preparing young people for leadership and productive participation in the economy.
According to him, the PDP is committed to policies that will expand access to quality education, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. He stressed the need for improved funding of public schools, rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure, and the provision of modern learning materials to meet global standards.
“Education is not just a social service; it is a strategic investment in our future,” the party leader said. “When we educate our children and equip our youths with relevant skills, we are laying the foundation for economic growth, innovation, and national unity.”
He also highlighted the importance of teachers in the education sector, calling for better welfare packages, continuous training, and improved working conditions to motivate educators and enhance learning outcomes. According to him, teachers remain the backbone of any successful education system and must be adequately supported.
The PDP chief further urged federal and state governments to prioritize education in their budgetary allocations, noting that increased funding would help address challenges such as overcrowded classrooms, inadequate facilities, and the growing number of out-of-school children. He added that technical and vocational education should be strengthened to equip youths with practical skills that align with current labor market demands.
In addition, he reaffirmed the party’s support for policies that promote equal educational opportunities for girls and marginalized communities, stressing that inclusive education is essential for balanced national development.
Party members and education advocates at the event welcomed the remarks, describing them as timely in view of the challenges facing the sector. They expressed confidence that sustained political commitment and policy consistency would significantly improve the quality of education nationwide.
The PDP leadership concluded by assuring Nigerians that education would remain a central pillar of the party’s development agenda, pledging continued advocacy for reforms aimed at building a knowledgeable, skilled, and globally competitive workforce.
