Education advocate and philanthropist, Ajadi, has thrown his weight behind educational development in Oyo State with a scholarship initiative aimed at empowering more than 10,000 students preparing for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
The initiative, which falls under Ajadi’s broader education support programme, is designed to reduce financial barriers faced by secondary school graduates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Beneficiaries of the scheme will have their JAMB registration fees fully covered, alongside access to preparatory materials and academic guidance.
Speaking on the programme, Ajadi described education as the most sustainable tool for social and economic transformation, noting that many qualified students miss higher education opportunities due to cost constraints. He said the scholarship is targeted at talented but underprivileged students across Oyo State.
“This intervention is about creating access and equal opportunity,” Ajadi said. “No student should be denied a chance at higher education because they cannot afford an examination fee.”
Education stakeholders in the state have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly as the cost of education continues to rise. School administrators say the programme is expected to boost university enrollment from public secondary schools and improve overall academic performance.
Students who benefit from the scholarship will be selected through a transparent process involving schools and community representatives, with priority given to candidates from low-income backgrounds.
With the JAMB scholarship scheme, Ajadi joins a growing list of private individuals supporting university access through grassroots educational interventions. Observers say the programme could serve as a model for public private collaboration in expanding higher education opportunities in Nigeria.
The scholarship rollout is expected to commence ahead of the next JAMB examination cycle, potentially opening doors to tertiary education for thousands of aspiring university students across Oyo State.
