Pamo University has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing critical healthcare disparities through innovative programs and community engagement initiatives. University officials report that sustained efforts over the past five years have significantly contributed to improving access to quality healthcare for underserved populations in the surrounding region.
During a press briefing at the university’s School of Health Sciences, Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement, Prof. Lydia Kamau, highlighted ongoing projects aimed at bridging gaps in primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and preventive care. “Our mission extends beyond education,” Prof. Kamau said. “We are committed to leveraging research, training, and outreach to ensure healthcare reaches those who need it most.”
Key initiatives include mobile health clinics that serve remote communities, student-led health awareness campaigns, and partnerships with local hospitals and government agencies. In addition, the university has integrated public health modules into its curricula, allowing students to apply practical solutions while fostering a new generation of socially responsible healthcare professionals.
Dr. Michael Odhiambo, Dean of the School of Medicine, emphasized the importance of evidence-based interventions. “By combining research with community service, we not only improve healthcare access but also generate actionable insights that inform national health policy,” he noted.
Pamo University’s approach has garnered recognition from regional health authorities, who cite the institution as a model for academic engagement in public health. Students, too, have expressed pride in contributing directly to programs that improve community well-being, seeing it as an extension of their learning beyond the classroom.
With plans to expand telemedicine services and strengthen collaborations with international health organizations, Pamo University is positioning itself as a leader in bridging healthcare inequities while maintaining its core academic mission.
