UniJos in Shock as 300-Level Student Killed, Buried by Friend

The University of Jos community has been thrown into deep mourning following the gruesome murder of a 300-level student, allegedly at the hands of his close friend.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Luka, a 300-level student of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, was reported missing last week before his lifeless body was discovered in a shallow grave near Farindon Village, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to reports, Emmanuel was last seen in the company of his friend, Joseph Danladi, who was later arrested after residents raised suspicion over his inconsistent statements. Police investigations revealed that Danladi confessed to killing Emmanuel during a heated argument over money and subsequently buried his body in a bushy area behind an uncompleted building.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage and fear across the campus, with students demanding justice and improved security measures within the university and its surrounding communities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the university’s management expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event, describing it as “a heartbreaking loss to the entire UniJos family.” The statement read in part:

“The University of Jos condemns in strong terms the senseless killing of one of our students. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and urge all students to remain calm while security agencies continue their investigations.”

The Plateau State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect is in custody. “The suspect has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Alabo said.

Meanwhile, students and staff held a candlelight procession on Sunday evening at the university’s permanent site to honor Emmanuel’s memory. Many described him as a “peaceful and ambitious young man” whose dreams were cruelly cut short.
