Sanwo Olu to Unveil LASU Library

Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State will today commission the newly completed library complex at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, in what is being described as a major milestone in the state’s education reform agenda.

The multi storey facility, designed with modern architecture and equipped with cutting edge technology, is expected to significantly enhance the academic experience for both students and faculty. It features digital research centers, e learning labs, high capacity reading rooms, and internet enabled private study areas.

In a statement released by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the project was described as part of the state government’s commitment to providing world class infrastructure in public institutions. The new library, the ministry noted, reflects the administration’s vision of turning LASU into a globally competitive institution.

Photographs shared ahead of the formal unveiling show an expansive structure with sleek interior designs, ergonomic furniture, and spaces dedicated to digital innovation, collaborative learning, and knowledge sharing. The facility is also said to include disability friendly features, ensuring inclusivity for all students.

The Vice Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, praised the state government for its continued investment in higher education. She said the new library will play a vital role in academic research, capacity building, and digital literacy.

“This is more than just a building,” she said. “It is a knowledge hub that will support learning, teaching, and research across disciplines. Our students deserve an environment that inspires excellence, and this library offers just that.”

Stakeholders from the academic community, student leaders, top government officials, and members of the Lagos State Executive Council are expected to attend the unveiling ceremony. Cultural performances and a guided tour of the facility are also scheduled as part of the event.

The project is among several others completed or ongoing within LASU under the current administration, including upgraded lecture theatres, new hostels, and improvements in campus road infrastructure.

The new LASU library is expected to open to students shortly after the commissioning, marking the beginning of a new academic era for one of Nigeria’s leading state universities.
