It was a moment of pride and celebration as the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) formally inducted 27 new medical laboratory scientists into the profession, including two exceptional graduates who earned First Class honors from the University of Ibadan.
The induction ceremony, held at the university’s Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, was attended by academic dignitaries, MLSCN officials, proud family members, and colleagues. The event highlighted the pivotal role of medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria’s healthcare system and emphasized the council’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and ethical practice.
Delivering the keynote address, the Registrar of MLSCN, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, commended the inductees for their resilience and dedication. He praised the University of Ibadan for its continued tradition of academic excellence and encouraged the new professionals to uphold the integrity and standards of the profession.
“This profession is not just about diagnosis,” Dr. Erhabor noted. “It is about saving lives through science, and Nigeria needs your expertise now more than ever.”

Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships) of the University of Ibadan, congratulated the new inductees and urged them to become change-makers in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
“The health of our nation depends on accurate diagnostics. You are the unsung heroes behind every correct medical decision,” she said.
The ceremony also featured the traditional oath-taking, during which the graduands pledged to adhere to professional ethics and contribute meaningfully to public health and scientific research.
