In a show of political solidarity and regional pride, top-ranking leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State have declared their full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anticipated second-term ambition. The endorsement comes amid widespread applause for the establishment of a Federal University in the region—a development many see as a transformative milestone.
The declaration was made during a high-level strategic meeting held at the Iseyin Town Hall, bringing together traditional rulers, political office holders, party executives, youth groups, and community stakeholders. The event, described by organizers as a “celebration of inclusion and recognition,” reflected a unified voice from the historically underrepresented region.
Tinubu’s Educational Legacy Highlighted
Addressing attendees, Hon. Ganiyu Bello, a former member of the House of Representatives and leading APC figure in the region, commended President Tinubu for correcting decades-long marginalization. “For the first time, we are witnessing tangible federal presence in Oke-Ogun,” Bello said. “The establishment of the Federal University is more than infrastructure—it is an investment in our people, in our future.”
He added that the institution will provide local students with access to world-class education, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and spur ancillary developments in the local economy.
Political Mobilization in Full Gear
Chief Adenike Adegbite, a prominent women’s leader and veteran party organizer, emphasized the importance of strategic mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections. “We now see governance that listens, that delivers,” she said. “This is why the people of Oke-Ogun will stand solidly behind President Tinubu. We are not just endorsing him—we are activating every ward, every community, every polling unit.”
The meeting ended with a resolution to expand grassroots political education and fortify APC’s support base across the ten local government areas of the Oke-Ogun region, which include Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Saki West, Atisbo, Kajola, and others.
Traditional Rulers Lend Support
Several traditional rulers from the region, though not directly involved in partisan politics, expressed appreciation for the renewed federal attention to Oke-Ogun. A communiqué signed by selected royal fathers described the new university as “a generational gift that speaks to the heart of equity and national cohesion.”
While cautioning political actors to prioritize inclusive development over partisan divides, the monarchs affirmed that “educational advancement is a pillar of peace and progress.”
Regional Development on the Horizon
With construction already underway, the Federal University is expected to open its doors to the first batch of students in the 2025/2026 academic session. Facilities will include science and technology faculties, vocational centers, and a digital research hub aimed at fostering innovation in agriculture and rural development—sectors deeply embedded in Oke-Ogun’s economy.
Editor’s Note: Oke-Ogun, located in the northern part of Oyo State, is known for its agricultural potential and cultural richness but has historically suffered from infrastructural neglect. The new Federal University marks the first major federal institution sited in the region in decades.
