Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are not only preparing Nigerian youths for immediate employment but also equipping them with the skills and mindset to thrive in the evolving global landscape.
Speaking at a national education stakeholders’ forum in Abuja on Friday, Prof. Mamman stated that the Tinubu administration’s strategic investments in education, skills development, and digital infrastructure are designed to produce not just job-ready graduates, but “future-ready” citizens.
“Our youth are no longer being trained merely to fill vacancies; they are being positioned to create value, innovate, and lead in a knowledge-driven world,” the Minister said. “President Tinubu’s policies are deliberately targeted at transforming our education system from theory-heavy to skills-oriented.”
Among the key initiatives highlighted were the expansion of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), the integration of digital literacy into school curricula, and increased support for entrepreneurship programs across tertiary institutions.
Prof. Mamman emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes youth empowerment, with a focus on ensuring that Nigerian graduates are competitive globally. He pointed to ongoing partnerships with tech firms and international education bodies as evidence of the government’s commitment.
Stakeholders at the forum welcomed the reforms, though some called for quicker implementation and better monitoring to ensure lasting impact.
With over 60% of Nigeria’s population under the age of 30, the stakes are high. But the Education Minister is confident that, with sustained effort, Nigerian youth will not only meet today’s employment demands but will be poised to shape the country’s long-term economic future.
