Nigerian cleric and self-proclaimed “Indaboski,” Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has stirred national controversy with a sweeping critique of the country’s education system. In a recent sermon, Odumeje declared that all educated Nigerians are effectively illiterate due to the country’s underdeveloped infrastructure.
“Everybody claiming educated in Nigeria; where there is no good road. Do you know what they call ‘learned people’? Educated people stay in a country where there is a lot of digital development. Everybody in this country is illiterate,” he said.
Odumeje compared Nigeria unfavorably to places like Dubai, emphasizing the lack of basic infrastructure such as good roads and technological advancement as evidence that formal education in Nigeria lacks practical impact.
His comments have triggered a wave of online reactions, with supporters echoing his frustration over the country’s developmental stagnation, while critics denounce the blanket statement as reductive and unfair to professionals striving for progress under difficult conditions.
This is not the first time Odumeje has made headlines. He previously claimed that his TikTok account was banned due to his “dangerous miracles,” alleging that the platform censored his content because of its spiritual nature.
The latest controversy raises broader questions about the relationship between education, governance, and societal progress. While some view Odumeje’s outburst as a wake-up call, others see it as another attention-grabbing moment in the prophet’s long list of provocative statements.
As the public discourse deepens, many are reflecting on the true value of education in a country still wrestling with infrastructural decay and institutional failure.
