Nigeria’s Premier Transport University Sends First Batch of Students to China, Russia for Global Training

In a bold stride toward enhancing Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure and human capital, the newly established Transport University in Daura has officially launched its inaugural international training program, sending students and faculty to China and Russia for advanced studies.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, aims to expose Nigerian students to cutting-edge technologies, modern railway systems, and global best practices in logistics and infrastructure management. The selected participants will undergo intensive training at top institutions and transport agencies in both countries.

Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Alkali, commended the program, stating, “This overseas training is a strategic investment in our future. It equips our students with critical skills and international experience that will position Nigeria as a leader in African transportation development.”

China and Russia, both known for their advanced transport systems, have partnered with the Nigerian government to provide full scholarships, technical mentorship, and practical internships for the trainees. The first batch includes 120 students and 30 faculty members.

The Vice Chancellor of Daura Transport University, Professor Haruna Musa, emphasized that the program aligns with the university’s mission to produce world-class transport engineers and policy experts. “This marks a turning point for transport education in Nigeria,” he said. “Our students will return with the expertise needed to transform our national infrastructure.”

Established in 2023, Daura Transport University is the first of its kind in West Africa and serves as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s long-term transport modernization strategy. The overseas program is expected to be an annual initiative, with expanded partnerships and destinations in the coming years.
