Unilorin Alumni Defend JAMB Registrar Over 2025 UTME Glitch

The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has come to the defense of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following the recent technical hiccups reported during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement issued on Monday, the association described the system glitch that affected a fraction of candidates as an operational setback, emphasizing that it should not be attributed to Prof. Oloyede’s leadership.

National President of the association, Dr. Ahmed Ayodeji, noted that Prof. Oloyede has been instrumental in transforming JAMB into one of the most transparent and efficient public examination bodies in Nigeria.

“While we acknowledge the concerns raised by candidates and parents, it is critical to separate temporary system failures from the exceptional administrative record of Prof. Oloyede,” Ayodeji said. “He has digitized JAMB processes and improved accountability far beyond what was previously imagined.”

The association urged stakeholders to await the outcome of JAMB’s internal review, which has already commenced. They also expressed confidence that the glitch would be thoroughly investigated and addressed to prevent recurrence in future exams.

Reports of candidates experiencing login delays and biometric verification issues surfaced during the first week of the 2025 UTME. JAMB has since apologized and rescheduled affected sessions, assuring the public of equitable treatment.

Prof. Oloyede, who has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016, is an alumnus and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin. His tenure has been marked by several reforms, including the introduction of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and improved revenue remittance to the federal government.

The Unilorin alumni reiterated their support for the Registrar, calling on Nigerians to exercise patience and appreciate the broader gains made under his stewardship.
