Wike Pledges to Provide Land for University of Port Harcourt’s New Campus in Abuja

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has promised to secure land in Abuja for the establishment of a new campus for the University of Port Harcourt. The commitment was made during a recent event, where Wike outlined his administration’s dedication to expanding access to higher education and enhancing the university’s national reach.

Speaking to the audience, Wike expressed his confidence in the University of Port Harcourt’s academic excellence and the importance of extending its presence beyond Rivers State. “The University of Port Harcourt is a beacon of quality education, and it is time we make it more accessible to students across Nigeria, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike stated.

The Governor’s pledge comes at a time when there has been increasing demand for higher education institutions in Abuja, as the city continues to grow both in population and academic aspirations. The new campus is expected to ease the pressure on existing universities in the region and provide more educational opportunities for prospective students.

The University of Port Harcourt’s management has welcomed the announcement, with university officials noting that the expansion would enhance its ability to serve students from diverse regions of Nigeria. It is anticipated that the new campus would offer a range of programs aimed at meeting the educational needs of students in Abuja and surrounding areas.

While specifics regarding the location and timeline for the development of the campus have yet to be finalized, Wike assured that his government would work closely with the university to make the project a reality. “We will ensure that the land is available and all necessary arrangements are made to see this project through,” he affirmed.

The move is seen as part of the broader push for educational reforms and expansion in Nigeria, as the government continues to invest in infrastructure and institutions that promote higher learning and national development.
