The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) has thrown its weight behind the ongoing strike by resident doctors in Oyo State, as well as the protests from staff in tertiary institutions. The organization has expressed concern over the worsening working conditions and lack of adequate support for healthcare professionals and academic staff in the state’s public institutions.
According to the CDWR, the strike is a response to the prolonged neglect and inadequate resources plaguing both the healthcare and education sectors. Resident doctors in Oyo State have been protesting poor remuneration, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of essential medical equipment, while staff in tertiary institutions have raised similar concerns about poor pay and funding cuts.
The CDWR has called on the state government to immediately address these issues, urging that the well-being of both healthcare professionals and academic staff be prioritized to ensure quality services in hospitals and educational institutions. The group further emphasized that any delay in resolving these matters could significantly impact the quality of services provided to the public and worsen the already fragile state of these sectors.
As negotiations continue, the CDWR remains a vocal advocate for the rights of workers, calling for better working conditions, fair compensation, and a more sustainable approach to managing public health and education.
