WAEC Introduces January/February Resit Examinations for WASSCE Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a new resit examination opportunity for candidates who need to retake their West African Senior Secondary Examinations (WASSCE) papers.

WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, announced the initiative during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana. He explained that the resit exams, known as the WASSCE PC1, will provide candidates an earlier chance to improve their results, starting from January and February 2025.

Details of the Resit Examination

Candidates who wish to participate in the resit exams must register online through WAEC’s website or at accredited internet cafés before the deadline of 8th January 2025.

The examinations are scheduled to run from 24th January to 15th February 2025.

Kapi added, “Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers can take advantage of this opportunity.”

Eligibility and Conditions

  • Candidates whose results have been cancelled can also sit for the WASSCE PC1 exams if they have not been banned for malpractice.
  • This initiative aims to provide students with a faster alternative to address academic gaps without waiting for the annual WASSCE cycle.

Implications

The introduction of resit exams is expected to enhance access to academic progression for students across West Africa, ensuring they can quickly address failed subjects and pursue further education or career opportunities.

This development aligns with WAEC’s efforts to improve flexibility and responsiveness in its examination processes.
