The Bamidele Olumilua University of Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), has received a major boost in its quest for academic and infrastructural excellence with the donation of a state-of-the-art Senate Building by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the Asiwaju of Ikere Kingdom.
The magnificent edifice, inaugurated on Thursday, has been lauded as a game-changer for the fledgling institution, established to drive advancements in science and technology. The building features modern facilities designed to foster a conducive environment for learning, research, and administrative activities.
High-Profile Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa; former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji; and Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro. Others present included university vice-chancellors, seasoned academics, and political leaders.
Dr. Alausa, speaking at the event, praised Chief Olanipekun’s philanthropic contribution, describing it as a model of selfless service and a commitment to national development. He reiterated the Federal Government’s focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as a cornerstone of its educational agenda, emphasizing the need to prepare young Nigerians for global challenges.
A Commitment to Excellence
Governor Oyebanji commended Chief Olanipekun’s generosity, likening his contributions to those of Aare Afe Babalola, another prominent Ekiti philanthropist. He stressed the importance of modern educational facilities, noting that his administration is committed to improving infrastructure across all educational levels.
“This Senate Building is not just a structure but a symbol of hope and progress for our university and the entire state,” the governor remarked, urging other Ekiti indigenes to contribute to the state’s development.
Chief Olanipekun’s Vision
In his address, Chief Olanipekun expressed satisfaction with his role in advancing education and community development. He described the Senate Building as a testament to his commitment to fostering academic excellence and fulfilling a long-held aspiration of the Ikere community to host a full-fledged university.
The building, completed in just eight months despite economic challenges, features 43 restrooms and modern amenities. It includes offices for senior university officials, a 150-capacity Senate chamber, a Council chamber, conference rooms, and various utility spaces spread across three floors.
Chief Olanipekun called on the state government to provide further support to the university, including the promised construction of a 5-kilometer road network within the campus.
A Legacy of Philanthropy
Tracing the history of BOUESTI, Chief Olanipekun highlighted the challenges faced in its establishment, including financial constraints. However, he expressed hope that his contribution would inspire others to invest in the institution’s growth.
“This is my way of giving back to my community and supporting the vision of BOUESTI as a beacon of academic excellence,” he said.
The new Senate Building is expected to significantly enhance BOUESTI’s reputation and capacity, positioning it among Nigeria’s top institutions in the coming years.
