Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, joined Prof. Joseph Ayodele, Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), to launch The Agricultural Option (TAO) Development Cluster, a three-year program aimed at advancing agriculture and youth empowerment.
The event, held in Ekiti, was also attended by Dr. Niyi Ojuolape, Chair of AgroMall, alongside his team. Speaking at the launch, Ojuolape highlighted the project’s focus on foundational agricultural development, food security, and economic prosperity.
The TAO Cluster, based at EKSU, seeks to provide agricultural students with hands-on training in farming, processing, and agribusiness. Participants will not only gain practical skills but also enjoy financial benefits of up to ₦2 million annually, which can assist with tuition or personal expenses. This initiative aims to inspire youth interest in agriculture while fostering entrepreneurial skills.
Ojuolape emphasized that the program extends beyond individual benefits, enhancing EKSU’s research and development efforts, curriculum, and reputation as a center of excellence in agricultural education.
The cluster is expected to contribute significantly to Ekiti State’s food security and economic prosperity, generating an estimated ₦40 billion in annual economic activity. By boosting agricultural development, the program will create jobs, reduce poverty, and address youth unemployment.
Governor Oyebanji described the initiative as a pivotal moment in the state’s agricultural development, expressing optimism about its impact. Prof. Ayodele echoed these sentiments, stating that the project aligns with EKSU’s vision of equipping graduates to tackle socioeconomic and environmental challenges.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges of youth unemployment, low economic growth, and food insecurity,” Ayodele said.
Dr. Ojuolape added, “TAO is excited to partner with EKSU and Ekiti State on this transformative project, which will significantly impact our students, our university, and our state.”
