The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Shaykh Luqman-Jimoh, announced that the institution will hold its 12th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, December 14, 2024. The event will take place at the university’s state-of-the-art Performing Arts Building.
At a press conference to herald the convocation, Professor Jimoh revealed that a total of 1,828 students graduated with second-class upper honors, while 71 students achieved first-class honors. Additionally, the institution produced 517 postgraduate students during the academic session.
Highlighting the university’s progress, the Vice-Chancellor also disclosed the introduction of 10 new degree programs, which have been verified by the National Universities Commission (NUC). He also noted the expansion of the university’s faculties from nine to 11, alongside the upgrade of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to better serve the clinical needs of the MBBS program.
Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, the President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science, is set to deliver the 12th Convocation lecture titled “The Optimum Utilization of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation.”
While celebrating these achievements, Professor Jimoh also addressed some of the challenges facing the university, including land encroachment, road infrastructure, and hostel facilities. He expressed appreciation for the support of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who has been instrumental in helping the university address these issues and approved a new minimum wage for the staff.
