A fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday, severely damaging a section of Queen Elizabeth Hall, one of the students’ hostels at the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State. The blaze, which affected the Hall Warden’s office and the Secretary’s office, is still under investigation as the cause remains unclear.
Queen Elizabeth Hall, primarily housing female undergraduates, was quickly attended to by firefighters from the University Fire Service. Their swift response helped to contain the flames and prevent further damage.
Mrs. Adejoke Akinpelu, the university’s Director of Public Communications, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, it is true. The office of the Warden and the office of the Secretary of the Warden were affected.” Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
