The President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has been named the lead ambassador for the University of Calabar’s (UniCal) 50th anniversary celebrations, scheduled for March 2025.
This announcement was made during the presentation of the anniversary flag to the university’s Pro Chancellor, D.I.G. Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd), by the anniversary committee in Calabar. Ekpoudom, while receiving the flag, praised the university as a great institution that has produced influential figures, including Akpabio, and expressed confidence that both Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu would bring about positive change in Nigeria, following their transformative roles as state governors.
UniCal’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, presented the flag to Ekpoudom on behalf of the university’s founding fathers and alumni, expressing her honor in overseeing the golden jubilee celebrations. She noted that many past VCs and Pro Chancellors had not had the opportunity to mark such a significant milestone.
Prof. Eyong Eyong, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, reiterated the theme of the celebration, “UniCal at 50: 50 Years of Impactful Knowledge and Service to Humanity.” He emphasized the university’s accomplishments and confirmed that the anniversary would also honor those who have contributed to its growth over the years.
