Covenant University has emerged victorious at the 2024 Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) Business Leaders Challenge, securing its position as the overall winner of the prestigious competition.
The grand finale, held at Bankers House in Lagos, featured five finalist teams from Nigerian universities. Covenant University’s Team Analyst clinched first place, surpassing Team Lot from Nile University, which claimed second place, and Team Visionary Titan from Landmark University, which finished third. Teams from TopFaith University and the University of Lagos also earned recognition with consolation prizes.
Rewards for Excellence
As the champion, Team Analyst received a cash prize of ₦1 million, access to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme valued at £2,000 per participant, and an internship opportunity with a leading corporate organization. Team Lot and Team Visionary Titan were awarded ₦700,000 and ₦500,000, respectively, along with two-month internships.
Real-Life Business Challenges
The competition challenged participants to solve real-world business problems, which they presented to an esteemed panel of judges, including finance and accounting experts Dr. Seyi Olanrewaju, Mr. Stanley Ubani, Mrs. Gbemi Adelowore, and Mrs. Folake Ogundipe.
Nurturing Future Leaders
Ijeoma Anadozie, Country Director of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, described the competition as a platform to nurture the next generation of business and finance leaders.
She lauded the participation of 57 universities, a significant increase from last year’s 30 participants.
“The CGMA Business Leaders Challenge celebrates the resilience, brilliance, and potential of future finance leaders,” Anadozie said. “I encourage all participants to continue pushing boundaries and connecting with global opportunities in management accounting.”
This achievement reinforces Covenant University’s reputation as a leader in academic excellence and innovation, showcasing the brilliance of its students on a national stage.
