Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun to strengthen its partnerships with research institutions across the country. The governor emphasized that such collaborations are key to advancing his administration’s focus on mechanized agriculture and agro-industrial development.
Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made the call during the 16th convocation ceremony of TASUED. He highlighted the increasing demand for educators and extension officers in agriculture, expressing confidence that TASUED is well-equipped to meet these needs.
“I encourage TASUED to deepen collaborations with other universities and research institutions, particularly in areas that align with our focus on mechanized agriculture and agro-industrial development,” he said.
The governor also made a significant announcement at the ceremony, donating N2.5 million to 85-year-old Bolaji Onafowokan, who was recognized as the oldest PhD graduate of TASUED. Onafowokan, who earned a doctorate in Educational Media and Technology, overcame numerous academic challenges to achieve this milestone.
Governor Abiodun praised Onafowokan’s perseverance, stating, “Not only is TASUED graduating its first set of Doctorate students today, but Ogun State is also proud to have the oldest PhD graduate in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, who is now officially the sixth oldest in the world.”
The governor described the achievement as an unprecedented milestone for the institution, Ogun State, and Nigeria, congratulating Onafowokan for his historic accomplishment.
