Fountain University, Osogbo, hosted its first induction and oath-taking ceremony on Wednesday for 37 registered nurses from its Department of Nursing Science. The event, which was centered around the theme “Advancing the Nursing Profession and Shaping the Future of Nigeria Healthcare,” featured a keynote address by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ramota Karim, who charged the graduates to view nursing not just as a profession but as a noble calling.

Prof. Karim highlighted the university’s dedication to producing top-tier healthcare professionals who will drive transformative change in Nigeria’s healthcare system. She stated, “We are committed to producing healthcare professionals who will excel in their careers and spearhead transformative changes in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.”

Reflecting on the program’s progress, Prof. Karim celebrated the university’s achievement in obtaining full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which led to an increase in its admission quota from 50 to 100 students. She noted, “By Allah’s grace, we achieved full accreditation and doubled our admission quota—an extraordinary feat that underscores our institutional commitment to excellence.”

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the graduates for their outstanding performances, with the first batch achieving an 86% pass rate and the second batch securing a perfect 100% pass rate. She shared details of ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the nursing program, including the construction of a modern-purpose built facility, the establishment of an N80 million Health Centre funded by NASFAT Women Wing, and an N10 million investment in advanced nursing laboratory equipment.

Prof. Karim urged the newly inducted nurses to uphold the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence. While recognizing opportunities for Nigerian nurses abroad, she stressed the importance of contributing to the nation’s healthcare system, concluding, “Nigeria needs your skills, dedication, and innovation to strengthen its healthcare system.”

The induction ceremony marked a significant milestone for Fountain University and its growing commitment to advancing healthcare education in Nigeria.
