FUOYE Staff Union Calls for Probe Into Vice Chancellor’s Alleged Misconduct and University Finances

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has called for an investigation into the university’s finances under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina. The union also seeks an inquiry into serious allegations against the VC, including claims of sexual harassment, victimisation of a staff member, and abuse of office.

The call for a probe came following a congress held by SSANU on Monday. In a statement signed by SSANU branch chairman Comrade Benjamin Faleye and secretary Ayomikun Aluko, the union stressed the need for accountability and transparency in the administration of the university.

Among the allegations against Professor Fasina, SSANU highlighted claims of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The union also accused the VC of administrative recklessness and lack of accountability, which it argued has undermined confidence in the leadership. Furthermore, SSANU opposed the practice of assigning teaching staff to non-teaching roles, calling it a deviation from standard university protocols.

The statement also called for immediate action on outstanding allowances owed to staff, urging the university management to implement decisions made by the Governing Council without further delay.

In response to the allegations, SSANU stated that it was prepared to provide an audio recording of the alleged sexual harassment incident, should the Governing Council and relevant authorities initiate a formal investigation.

The union, however, expressed appreciation for the redeployed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Engineer K.O. Ojo, commending his leadership and contributions to the university’s growth during his brief tenure.

SSANU urged the university’s Governing Council and other relevant stakeholders to take swift action to address these issues and restore harmony, ensuring the integrity and reputation of FUOYE are upheld.
