Group Proposes Three New Universities in Anambra to Boost State Development

Awka, Nigeria – A new group, aimed at accelerating development in Anambra State, has proposed the establishment of three special universities within the next year. The group, led by Chairman Comrade Anthony Ozo, revealed the initiative after a critical meeting in Awka on Monday.

The proposed universities include Innoson University of Technology, named after Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, CEO of Innoson Group of Companies; Arthur Eze University of Management and Legal Studies, in honor of prominent businessman Sir Arthur Eze; and Igwe Alfred Achebe African University of Culture and International Studies, named after the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe. The group believes these institutions will significantly contribute to the state’s educational and economic development.

Ozo emphasized that the group, known as GOLD (Group for Organizing Leadership and Development), aims to foster good governance in Anambra, particularly by holding the state and local government accountable. He highlighted that the establishment of these universities is a crucial step toward generating tangible progress and improving the state’s educational infrastructure.

In a call to the media, Ozo stressed the importance of collaboration with journalists, recognizing the media’s role in supporting their goals. The group has already formed various committees, including those for legal, education, and mobilization efforts, to ensure the smooth progress of the initiative.

Chief Paul Nwosu, one of the group’s conveners, expressed confidence that the universities would be operational within the next year. He stated that the group would work closely with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to secure approval and ensure the institutions are established as planned.

“We are committed to making these universities functional and begin admitting students within the next year,” Nwosu said. “With the support of the media and our collaboration with these influential figures, Anambra will see significant development over the next few years.”

The group’s proposal is seen as a direct response to the perceived underutilization of the state’s opportunities, with the founders confident that the universities will open new doors for political and economic growth in Anambra.
