Effurun, Delta State – The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has awarded a N250 million grant to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) for the construction of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Center for Corrosion Research. The grant is part of ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS), aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Nigerian higher institutions.
During the ground-breaking ceremony, Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director/CEO of ASR Africa, emphasized the commitment of ASR Africa Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu to making a lasting impact on education across Africa. He noted that FUPRE’s selection for this grant was due to its strong reputation in providing high-quality education and its significant contributions to research, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, Vice Chancellor of FUPRE, expressed profound gratitude for the generous donation. He explained that the new center will equip researchers with advanced technologies to combat corrosion, a critical issue in the oil and gas industry. The center will also provide training for students, foster cutting-edge research, and position Nigeria as a leader in addressing global corrosion challenges.
The establishment of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Center for Corrosion Research is expected to strengthen industry practices and contribute to both local and international efforts in tackling corrosion-related problems in various sectors.
