Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), emphasizing the importance of education for the state’s development.
Governor Lawal made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Aminu Sani Isa, and members of the Governing Council to the Zamfara Government House.
Plans to Enhance Educational Collaboration
Speaking during the visit, Governor Lawal highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the university’s infrastructure and academic programs.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Federal University Gusau Governing Council for this visit,” the governor stated. “Such gatherings provide an opportunity to reflect and plan ways to enhance our educational sector for the benefit of our people.”
The governor revealed plans to upgrade the Yeriman Bakura Specialist Hospital into a fully equipped teaching hospital to support the university’s forthcoming Medicine program. He also assured the council of his administration’s efforts to address land compensation issues, improve student accommodation by building hostels, and complete projects initiated by previous governments.
Financial Commitment and Strategic Partnerships
Governor Lawal emphasized the importance of the university to the state, pledging financial and infrastructural support to enhance its capacity.
“We will explore ways to make a financial commitment to support you. In the long run, our community will benefit because the school is in Zamfara,” he said.
Pro-Chancellor Commends Governor’s Efforts
Earlier in the meeting, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Aminu Sani Isa, praised Governor Lawal for his continued support of the institution, noting that the governor had initiated several impactful projects for FUGUS even before assuming office.
The visit underscores the state government’s commitment to fostering educational development and collaboration with federal institutions to drive growth in Zamfara.
