Peter Obi Donates N60 Million to Peter University and School of Nursing in Anambra

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has made a significant philanthropic gesture, donating N60 million to support educational institutions in Anambra State. The donation includes N50 million for Peter University and N10 million for the School of Nursing in Adazi-Nnukwu.

Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony, Obi emphasized the importance of quality education in national development and reiterated his commitment to improving educational standards across Nigeria. He stressed that investing in education is one of the most powerful tools for societal progress and urged students to strive for excellence, noting that they are the future leaders of the country.

Obi also expressed his dedication to supporting institutions that promote professionalism and ethical character, specifically highlighting the role of the School of Nursing in nurturing skilled healthcare professionals. He addressed the issue of brain drain, advising Nigerian nurses seeking better opportunities abroad to consider returning once the country is reformed, as their skills would be crucial to the nation’s advancement.

Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, commended Obi for his consistent dedication to educational causes. He highlighted Obi’s pivotal role in revitalizing Anambra’s education sector, particularly through the return of schools to the Church, which he said significantly improved both infrastructure and academic outcomes. Bishop Ezeokafor also acknowledged Obi’s contribution to the university, noting his sponsorship of an entrepreneurship center aimed at equipping students with practical skills for innovation and self-sufficiency.

Obi’s donation comes as part of his ongoing efforts to support educational reforms and contribute to the betterment of the country’s future through education.
