Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Opens Applications for Computer Science Admission via Open and Distance Learning

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has announced the opening of applications for its 2024/2025 academic session in Computer Science through the Open and Distance Learning Centre (ODLC).

In a statement, Prof. F.I. Alao, Director of the ODLC, highlighted that the program would offer a modern blended learning approach, designed to provide all categories of learners with access to quality education. The initiative aims to make higher education in Computer Science more accessible, regardless of physical location, age, or previous qualifications.

Prof. Alao emphasized that prospective students no longer need to worry about the traditional barriers of distance, age, or the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to pursue a B.Sc in Computer Science. He also pointed out that the tuition fees for the distance learning program are highly affordable, offering a more cost-effective alternative to conventional on-campus courses.

The program promises access to world-class laboratories and computing facilities, allowing students to gain practical experience while earning their degree. Graduates of the program will also be eligible for mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), provided they are under the age of 30 at the time of graduation. They will receive the same certificate as students in the traditional on-campus program.

For admission to the 100-level, candidates are required to have at least five credits in the SSCE/GCE/NECO, including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and one other relevant subject, such as Biology, Agricultural Science, or Economics. These qualifications should have been obtained in no more than two sittings.

This new opportunity reflects FUTA’s commitment to providing innovative and accessible education solutions, aligning with the growing trend of flexible learning models across the country.
