President Tinubu Orders Immediate Takeoff of FUTA Teaching Hospital

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Pate, to expedite the establishment of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.

In response to the directive, Prof. Pate dispatched a team to Ondo State to assess the existing structures that will facilitate the takeoff of the new teaching hospital, ensuring it is incorporated into the 2025 federal budget.

Dr. Jimoh Olawole Salaudeen, Director of Hospital Services at the Federal Ministry of Health, led the inspection team to Akure, where they visited both the permanent site for the teaching hospital and the temporary site at the Akure Annex of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital.

After the inspection, Dr. Salaudeen expressed satisfaction with the available facilities, noting that the teaching hospital’s takeoff is imminent. He confirmed that FUTA has already begun training medical students, some of whom are in their third year. He also revealed that the Ondo State government has allocated space for a temporary site to kickstart operations.

“We are here to work with the state government to ensure that everything is in place for the hospital’s commencement. We are pleased to see the progress made so far, and the community’s support will make the clinical training of students much easier,” Salaudeen said.

The Ondo State Government has pledged full support for the project. Dr. Banji Ajaka, the state’s Commissioner for Health, reiterated that the state is ready to assist in any way necessary to fulfill President Tinubu’s mandate.
