David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) in Uburu has granted scholarships to 79 academic staff members as part of efforts to enhance the intellectual capacity and academic excellence of the university. The scholarships, which include funding for Master’s and Ph.D. programs, conferences, and institution-based research grants, were presented during a meeting on campus.
Prof. Jesse Uneke, Vice Chancellor of the university, emphasized that the initiative is aimed at boosting the educational development of the staff for the benefit of students and the university’s global standing. He expressed the university’s commitment to transforming its academic staff and elevating the institution to international recognition in the next three years.
During the meeting, DUFUHS also launched several new initiatives, including the release of funds for conferences (both national and international) and an upcoming institutional research grant program. Prof. Uneke encouraged lecturers to actively engage in academic conferences and bring back evidence of participation, such as flight tickets, visas, and presentation materials, to support their professional growth and strengthen the university’s global partnerships.
He also announced plans for a new research grant program, where 60 staff members will receive ₦2 million each for research projects lasting 18 months. Prof. Uneke reiterated that the university is dedicated to supporting the academic progress of its staff and urged them to stay aligned with the institution’s goals and initiatives.
