October 31, 2024 – Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State

Elizade University is set to graduate 484 students from its 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, with 51 achieving first-class honors. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kayode Ijadunola announced the details at a press conference ahead of the upcoming eighth and ninth convocation ceremonies.

Among the total degrees awarded, 228 will be from the 2022/2023 session and 256 from 2023/2024. In addition to the undergraduate degrees, the university will also confer 74 graduate degrees, which include 16 postgraduate diplomas, 51 master’s degrees, two Master of Philosophy degrees, and five Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Ijadunola emphasized the university’s growth in both academic and infrastructural areas, attributing this progress to the support of founder Chief Michael Ade Ojo and the collaboration of the university community. He noted that the institution has launched several new postgraduate programs, particularly in engineering and law, and is enhancing its research capabilities.

However, Ijadunola highlighted the challenges faced by the university, particularly the skyrocketing energy costs that have nearly tripled due to recent changes in electricity billing. He expressed concern over the impact of the “Japa syndrome,” a trend of professionals migrating abroad, which is affecting higher education institutions across Nigeria.

Despite these challenges, Ijadunola affirmed the university’s resilience and commitment to providing quality education. He also announced that the convocation will honor two distinguished Nigerians: businesswoman Mrs. Folorunso Alakija and oil and gas entrepreneur Chief Tunde Afolabi, who will receive honorary doctorate degrees.

The convocation is anticipated to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class while addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the institution.
