Governor Bago Awards N1 Million Scholarships to 86 Undergraduates in Niger State

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has announced a N1 million scholarship for each of the 86 matriculating students at Abdulkadir Kure University, aimed at supporting their pursuit of a first degree. This initiative was unveiled during the university’s inaugural matriculation ceremony.

In addition to the scholarships, Governor Bago pledged a significant N500 million donation to the newly established institution, which recently transitioned from the College of Education Minna to a full-fledged university.

During the ceremony, Bago expressed his enthusiasm for the university’s transformation, stating, “There is no more College of Education, Minna, standing alone. It has been absorbed by Abdulkadir Kure University.” He outlined plans for the development of various colleges within the university, including those focused on Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, and Aeronautics.

Bago highlighted the establishment of a subnational research institute dedicated to agricultural science and innovation, supported by a commitment of 1% of Niger State’s total revenue. He also announced the allocation of N15 billion for the construction of student hostels and a new Senate building for the university.

Reinforcing the government’s dedication to education, Bago assured that scholarships and exchange programs would be made available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He emphasized a vision of education that empowers all Nigerlites, declaring, “Our desire is to give the children of the nobody the chance to become somebody.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Paiko lauded the governor’s commitment, noting the transformative impact on education in the state. Pro-Chancellor Prof. Kuta Yahaya echoed this sentiment, calling the university’s evolution a pivotal milestone in Governor Bago’s vision for educational advancement in Niger.

As the university embarks on this new chapter, the governor reiterated his commitment to making education in Niger State both accessible and of high quality, envisioning a future where students not only seek jobs but also create them.
