Gombe, Nigeria — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University (GSU) has officially suspended its six-week strike as of Thursday. The decision follows an agreement reached between the union and the Gombe state government.
Dr. Suleiman Salihu Jauro, Chairman of the ASUU-GSU branch, announced the suspension during a congress meeting, stating that the state government had approved ₦947 million to cover staff promotions, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and other outstanding payments for both academic and non-academic staff.
The strike began on September 11, 2024, in response to a range of funding and welfare demands. After extensive discussions with the government, the union reviewed the agreement and decided to end the strike effective immediately.
Dr. Jauro urged the government to honor all aspects of the new agreement and expressed gratitude to the media and the public for their support during the strike.
