Edo State, Nigeria – October 17, 2024: Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, has been honored with an Award of Academic Excellence by the Northern Council of Nigeria. This recognition acknowledges his outstanding leadership and contributions during his tenure at Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) University in Lapai, Niger State.

The award, titled Garkuma Matasan Arewa—meaning “Icon and Cynosure of Educational Transformation”—was presented by Dr. Isa Ododo, President of the Council, and Mallam Abdullahi Bilal, the Vice President, during a ceremony held at the university’s Senate Chambers.

In his remarks, Dr. Ododo praised Prof. Egbefo’s exceptional academic impact and his ability to inspire students and faculty alike. He noted that Egbefo’s leadership style and dedication to nurturing young talent distinguished him among his peers, leading to his recognition as the best among notable academics.

“Your commitment to quality education and your efforts in developing character in young adults have set a high standard,” Ododo stated. He also highlighted the significant improvements in student outcomes during Egbefo’s leadership.

The Vice President of the Council echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Egbefo’s unique approach to addressing the intellectual needs of students with a nurturing attitude. He acknowledged Egbefo’s humility and support for students, despite not being from the northern region.

Responding to the honor, Prof. Egbefo expressed his gratitude for the recognition of his contributions at IBB University. He reflected on his teaching career, which began in 2005, and the meaningful impact he hopes to continue making at Edo State University.

He thanked the Council representatives for acknowledging his efforts and prayed for the strength and wisdom to further enhance the educational experience for students, particularly in a time filled with distractions for youth.

The event culminated in the presentation of a symbolic portrait of Sir Amhadu Bello GCON, the first and only premier of the Northern Region, a notable figure in Nigerian history.

Guests at the ceremony included key management staff from Edo State University, such as the Registrar, Habib Ekhalefo, and the Bursar, Dr. Osagie Osifo, among others. In a closing statement, the Registrar thanked the Council for their recognition and support for the institution.
