Ilesa, Nigeria – October 14, 2024 – The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, has called on university staff to enhance their computer skills and digital competence to remain relevant in today’s technology-driven world. Speaking at the 2024 Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI) held on campus, Prof. Asaolu emphasized the importance of digital proficiency for productivity and competitiveness.
He stated that digital visibility is crucial for improving global and national university rankings, stressing that the university must not fall behind in adopting modern technologies. “In this new world driven by innovation, it is imperative for all staff to be digitally competent,” he noted.
The ADEPTI training, sponsored by the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), aims to ensure that the university’s teaching, learning, and administrative functions are powered by advanced technology. Prof. Asaolu highlighted recent initiatives, including the installation of smart boards in all faculties and the introduction of accounting software for the bursary staff, to enhance operational efficiency.
He urged all staff, both academic and non-teaching, to invest in their digital skills, as computer literacy has become essential. “We cannot operate in the old space; we must adapt to the demands of a rapidly evolving digital landscape,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the collaboration with DBI and the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), expressing gratitude for their support in enhancing the university’s technological capacity. He encouraged participants to take the training seriously, emphasizing its potential impact on their productivity and the overall advancement of the university.
Prof. Asaolu concluded by officially opening the training program, expressing confidence that the skills acquired would significantly benefit both the participants and the institution.
