Malete, Nigeria – October 15, 2024 – The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has condemned the recent protest by students from its Study Centre at the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS). The university described the demonstration as unwarranted and driven by individuals seeking to undermine the integrity of the upcoming examinations.

In a statement issued by the Registrar, Dr. Kikeloma Sallee, the university refuted claims made by CAILS management regarding a lack of communication over the decision to change the examination venue. Dr. Sallee characterized these claims as baseless and mischievous.

“The public needs to understand that Kwara State University operates two external locations for its Sandwich Degree Programme: CAILS and Imam Hamzat College of Education. These institutions are study centres and not affiliated to KWASU, meaning that the students are under the university’s administration,” the statement clarified.

The management emphasized that it is not obligated to seek authorization from CAILS when making decisions affecting its students. The centralization of the examination venue, held at the KWASU Conference Centre in Ilorin, was implemented to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure standardized evaluation.

Dr. Sallee noted that the decision was communicated to students during an orientation session on October 2, 2024, contradicting claims that the notice was given just days before the exams.

“KWASU will not compromise on quality and will not be swayed by unfounded propaganda aimed at coercing changes to its established standards,” the management asserted.

Students are advised that the examination will proceed as scheduled at the KWASU Conference Centre, and they should prepare accordingly.
