University of Ibadan to Receive TETFund Support Following Flooding

The University of Ibadan (UI) is set to receive support and intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in response to recent flooding that impacted student hostels.

The flooding, which occurred a few days ago, affected Awo Hostel, submerging approximately 16 rooms on the ground floor and leaving students’ belongings floating in the water.

During a visit to the university, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, the Southwest representative on the TETFund board, emphasized the organization’s proactive approach. He noted that TETFund prioritized addressing potential risks to the lives of students and residents rather than waiting for disasters to occur.

“We have assessed the effects of the flood, which were not as severe as reported in the media. We understand the situation and are committed to taking measures to prevent future incidents in the hostel and surrounding areas,” Adepoju stated.

He also highlighted that while TETFund’s resources are typically allocated to institutions, the board is dedicated to addressing the flooding issue promptly to safeguard the university community.
