Covenant University has emerged as the best university in Nigeria and seventh in Africa, surpassing prestigious institutions such as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Ibadan (UI) in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024.
This achievement highlights Covenant University’s leadership in higher education, as it was evaluated against 1,907 universities across 108 countries. The rankings were based on 18 performance indicators grouped into five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
The ranking reflects significant developments in the global higher education landscape, including over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and survey responses from more than 68,000 scholars worldwide.
Other notable Nigerian universities in the rankings include the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, which ranked 26th in Africa, followed by Benson Idahosa University at 30th and Nnamdi Azikiwe University at 31st.
