The Kano State Government has announced a shift in the resumption date for all-day public and private primary and post-primary schools to Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Pupils and students in boarding schools, however, will resume on Monday, September 16, 2024. This adjustment follows the declaration of September 16 as a public holiday to mark Eid-el-Maulud, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The decision was confirmed in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Kiru. According to the statement, State Commissioner of Education Umar Doguwa explained that the rescheduling aims to allow students and their families to observe the holy day with proper reverence.
“The adjustment is to allow students to celebrate the holy date marking the birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” Doguwa said in the statement.
He extended his congratulations to the Muslim community and called on them to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and patriotism. Doguwa also urged them to continue praying for the state and the nation at large.
The statement advised parents and guardians to note the new resumption dates to ensure full compliance. It also wished students, pupils, and teachers a peaceful and memorable Maulud celebration and a successful new academic session.
In related news, the Kano State Government has been active in addressing various local issues, including monitoring the use of N3 billion flood relief funds, recovering stolen phones during police raids, and addressing cases of vandalism with recent arrests by the NSCDC.
