Federal Government Probes 3,000 Alleged Fake Graduates Uncovered by JAMB

Abuja, FCT – The federal government of Nigeria has confirmed the ongoing investigation into the 3,000 alleged fake graduates recently uncovered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, announced on Sunday, July 7, that those found guilty of forgery would be prosecuted.

These fake graduates, reportedly part-time candidates, had falsified their admissions to appear as regular students to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). JAMB’s efforts to clean up admissions into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions led to the discovery of these 3,000 fake graduates and illegal certificates.

Minister Sununu emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and those identified will face legal action. He stated, “The 3,000 are part-time candidates that forged their admission to be regular students just for them to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The basis of their alleged crime is forgery, which is a punishable offence. The ministry will ensure that all due processes are followed to prosecute all those involved.”

This development follows JAMB’s recent disclosure about ghost students and the completion of a panel investigation into degree racketeering in foreign and private universities. The federal government remains committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in the admissions process.
