“Tinubu’s Directive Grants NOUN Graduates Access to NYSC and Law School”

In a significant move towards inclusivity, President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Federal Ministry of Education to integrate graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and facilitate their admission into Law School. This directive marks a pivotal moment for NOUN graduates, ensuring they have equal opportunities for further education and professional advancement.

President Tinubu’s directive, delivered at the 13th convocation ceremony of NOUN held at the university’s Convocation Arena in Jabi, Abuja on Saturday, April 13, underscores the government’s commitment to providing fair opportunities for all Nigerian graduates. Represented by Noel Salihu, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Tinubu emphasized the importance of embracing the changing demographics of the nation and ensuring that NOUN graduates are not excluded from vital educational and professional pathways.

“With the changing demographics of our great nation, the government has recognized the importance of allowing NOUN graduates to participate in the NYSC scheme,” Tinubu’s representative stated. “The doors of the Law School are now open to the graduates, ensuring equal opportunities for all.”

Tinubu affirmed his government’s dedication to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and affordability of open and distance education in Nigeria, emphasizing its role in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He pledged to expand access to higher education across the nation, affirming the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive educational policies.

Furthermore, the convocation ceremony celebrated the graduation of 22,175 students from NOUN, with 22 individuals earning first-class degrees. Professor Olufemi Peters, the Vice Chancellor of NOUN, expressed his enthusiasm for the institution’s growth and highlighted plans to enhance its post-graduate programs. Additionally, two distinguished Nigerians, Dr. Innocent Chukuwuma and activist Hajiya Hafsat Abdulwaheed, were honored for their notable contributions to society.

Tinubu’s directive represents a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities in Nigeria’s educational landscape, empowering NOUN graduates to pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
